What is a .bat file and how to create one
A dot bat file is a file that holds a list of command prompt commands. So let’s say you want to make a file that executes a command and have a shortcut on your desktop, well this would do it.
1. Right click on your desktop and click “new text”
2. open text and type in the command, for instance if you type “control” (leave out the quotations) this command will display your computers control panel.
3. Click “File”. Save As> Click Save File Type>Select All Files> name your file “whatever.bat” click save.
Notes: if you are trying to open a file or program that is in a specfici location, if there are spaces in the location be sure to add cd and quotations around the command. For instance, if I want create a .bat file that will open Office 2K7 on a windows & machine this is what the bat file would look like:
cd “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12”
outlook.exe Outlook:Calendar
